The event consisted of 24 performances from the high school students at a local high school. They mostly entailed individuals or small groups singing popular songs in English. Some performers went the extra mile and incorporated coordinated outfits and dances. All in all it was pretty cool and fun!
Side note: Last week we were informed by some students of an English competition at another high school in town. They invited us to stop by to see them perform. It was at yet another nightclub; this is one is more like 3 blocks away. We showed up and said we had been invited. That was the key word to use! In Nicaragua, being invited means that you were formally invited and you don’t have to pay. I had forgotten about that. So you guessed it. We were escorted through the gate as “invitados” (special invited guests) and did not have to pay the entrance fee. Pretty cool. – Caressa
